july 31st

ran into wisp today. despite being... nocturnal, i haven't run into him yet, so it was a nice surprise.

ended up going for "give me stuff!" cuz it's not like i have many weeds.

got a blue wall, fine enough i guess, though it's funny cuz i passed on buying one at nook's literally yesterday. i almost wish i went for the roof painting though.

i also checked in on booker since katrina left. saw that renna is coming on august 2nd, which is pretty exciting. renna being the npc added in deluxe that acts as the method of obtaining e+'s outdoor decor system.

also ae-ro-bics. this song is seared into my head now. there's still eight more days of this?

onto the main event though, nook's raffle.

i really wanted the stereo and lamp, and i won all three prizes after seven tickets. lol lmao. shoutouts to having seventeen items effecting my item luck (no you don't need that many, but i want that many)

july 30th

missed the aerobics by 3 minutes so decided to time travel, not my fault it decided to run through when i was watching victory gundam.

aside from that, i decided to expand my alt character's house. spent i'd guess an hour picking up fruits to sell, there's enough planted that getting the 140k was easy, supplemented with a few beetles along the way.

katrina also visited today, checked with her on both of my characters, got so-so luck. whatever. what's more important than that is this... peculiar fortune.

a car is going to practice judo at a playground ??

anyway last thing to note is nook is doing his lottery tomorrow, hoping he has something good.

and if he does, i better win at least something with all these damn things clogging my storage.

july 29th

cashmere moved out today, can't say i'm super disappointed, i don't hate her but don't have strong feelings on her either.

huggy moved in to take her place. she's cute, i'm fine with her staying for as long as she decides to.

she's not the only resident to move in today, as i also decided i should probably make a secondary character.

i ended up naming her grace cuz idk, she'd only grace the town with her presence sometimes...? idk. anyway. i figured i should have at least one character to hold stuff like rare furniture and wallpapers you can't repurchace, and to hold extra patterns for once i do get around to actually putting real effort in making my paths.

july 28th

rain

july 27th

aerobics.

july 26th

aaaand nook decided to close today, meaning my turnips are going to rot tomorrow. whatever i suppose, i didn't have many bells on hand when i bought them so it's not a major loss. it also means i get to catch an ant tomorrow.

since nook was closed, and i saw someone who wanted furniture i had spares of, i decided to TT up a day to give that stuff away, since nook's codes are inaccessible if he's not open for business. it's kinda interesting actually using the hear code/say code function as intended, i never knew anyone with ACGC when i was growing up so i had no one to swap items with.

on TTing back to the normal date, i saw it was raining, so in the last hour of the day i decided to take advantage of that and quickly threw together three hybrid growing gardens. not the most efficient, but i figure it's good enough for a basic start. i'll have to see once the clock rolls over at 6am to see if they worked out.

july 25th

july 24th

the deluxe mod was updated today, meaning the introduction of scarab beetles. they took the slot of the flat stag, since those are basically just a smaller version of another type of stag beetle already in the game. anyway, the reason i mention this is because the way this replacement was handled means i've already "caught" four, which is pretty funny.

another addition to this patch today was additional palettes for the able sisters, which means i can finally test out how my proof of concept for my paths would actually work.

yeah i dunno, this is certainly going to be a major undertaking. i used a path like this in acnh, but it was mainly through various pieces i grabbed from other users hosting theirs. for what i want to do, i know i'm going to need a LOT of variety of pieces, so a pattern mule character is probably in the picture in the future. maybe then i can also test how that stupid outfit from yesterday looks lmao.

today was also my first run-in with katrina in this town. i actually hadn't seen her in GC since i was a kid, so i spent the day confused wondering where she was, since villagers kept talking about her. as it turns out she only shows up around 9PM. that makes sense, cuz the couple times i saw her as a kid, i remember having to go to bed shortly after.

my fortune was this, which apparently constitutes as extremely good luck with money. i'll take it.

i did a latenight visit to the island, to see if there'd be any stags with my good luck. well, since my island is wholly coconut trees, they can't spawn. so my only real highlight was seeing, well... gulliver...

he's fine... maybe...

aaaanyway. fruit planting. beetle hunting.

july 23rd

started the day, as in the date rolling over to midnight, by walking out of able sisters after working on a few path designs, and seeing the grass and trees actually shifted color.

pretty neat, though it did make me wonder if it was something i could actually watch in realtime. maybe next month.

speaking of able sisters, i saw someone post an archive of various clothing patterns that have been officially distributed for players to recreate themselves at home, and one struck me as... interesting.

i just sat there like wtf lmao, this is the same game where your player is forced to wear a cone head or viking helmet with the same pattern as the shirt pasted on those. curiosity got to me how it'd work so, uhh.

i... think i get what they're going for, as much as i don't get why this exists. what gets me is the hat...? the asshead??? i don't have a female player character so i have no idea what it'd look like on the conehead, maybe i'll make one to see.

i also learned today how restrictive this game's feng shui mechanics actually are.

for example, in my main room, i have that couch specifically shoved against the wall. that's because, for this couch to count as yellow feng shui, BOTH tiles that couch occupy have to be within the range for yellow feng shui. if it's only one, it doesn't count. even more ridiculous, that fire extinguisher in the front, despite like 70% of the model being red, doesn't count as freaking red.

anyway, not much else to note, other than nook offering to buy my turnips at 69 bells (nice).

july 22nd

not too much of note today. donated a moving painting to blathers.

bro had nothing to say lmao.

anyway, just the usual routine today aside from getting some pathing designs started.

july 21st

caught a coconut crab today. had some trouble finding one, took a few laps of shaking trees. i never found one when i was playing e+, since i never got around to playing during the summer. didn't know how rare they were.

i also got my return letters from my villagers today.

bizarre to say the least, apparently they're all formed with a template. that's fair enough i guess, i did just start sending "L. L. L. L. L." so it's not like i'm any better lmao.

aside from that, i also made a joke somewhere about how nook is not restocking axes fast enough for me, where i got someone going "you gotta get that golden axe" in response. and i figured, you know what, i really do. so i started my quest to really focus that down.

so, the rest of today's play session mainly just ended up being beetle hunting, fruit planting, and texture fixing.

july 20th

sometime in the night, i finally snapped. i've been dumping, fixing, then replacing textures for days now. i already went through this much work to fix them all, and i have all the files ready and sorted. and as i stated before, i greatly prefer the clay-like look this face originally has. so i decided screw it, all it'd take would be a few color tweaks on every single texture. time consuming, sure, but nothing i can't do.

soooo i did. definitely took some time to actually convert them all, but whatever. i'm happy with it.

as for the actual game, as opposed to a latenight beetle hunting session, i did an early morning one.

the vibes are pretty unparalleled for hunting at this hour. the pleasant lighting and fog, the music, the inherent chillness of beetle hunting. it's just really nice.

ran into copper practicing aerobics in the process of that, which reminded me those are starting soon.

and cobb gave me this shirt. he said it was too cutesy for him, but would look great on me. what could he mean by this?

aaaand i bought turnips. spent around 23k, which is just the amount i was carrying on-hand.

july 19th

since i'm aware of the fact one of the factors preventing villager moveouts in acgc is letters, i decided to finally start locking in the villagers i want to keep and mailing them letters. i just used the letter scoring tool until i found an easy template to just type over and over to get rewards and raise friendships back in the process. (yes i'm using dolphin)

anyway right after i sent out like four of those, someone informed me there's a much easier way to do it.

of course that's how things end up lmao.

anyway, the villagers i decided i'm most attached to, with no particular order aside from tabby being first cuz best girl, are

respectively they're tabby, coco, lucky, leopold, lobo, carmen, cobb, dozer, and sally (she's not cally in this one).

aside from that, you guessed it, beetle hunting and texture fixing and upgrading my house. stuff i'm having fun with but definitely not much to write about lmao.

july 18th

just another casual session today. nook was closed, so i did the customary thing of dumping my stuff outside his store.

i also noticed my villagers have really taken a liking to this default template pattern offered by the able sisters...

anyway. beetle hunting, texture fixing. mmmyup.

july 17th

nothing too much of note today other than playing at 3am and having octavian being outside MY house, calling ME a psycho for being awake at 3am. from the guy outside MY house at 3am. i love this game's dialog lmao.

aside from that, beetle hunting, expanded my house, fixed my textures. yup.

july 16th

so, i alluded to before that i considered my character rather ghastly looking. that was due to a combination of things. since i used ACSE to force my character's face to the face you get as an "easter egg" when you travel to another town, then power off your Nintendo Gamecube™ without saving, your character's facial features are temporarily replaced to instead resemble a gyroid, similar to coco's design. ever since i found out this was a thing, i loved it, i learned how to texture edit and later save modify just to give myself this face when i was playing e+.

it just really fascinated me that despite only being a temporary thing, it's rather fully featured, like you can actually get a beesting then go pay off your loan while afflicted with this face, and it doesn't just default to a normal face. it's neat to me, so obviously that isn't the part that i find ghastly. it's the combination of the featureless look your character gets, overlapping with the skin tone system being overriden in deluxe.

and then you compare it to the vanilla look.

instead of the look of being made of clay, the version here ends up weirdly fleshlike. it certainly took some adjustment, but something i felt i could adjust to. that is, until...

yeah so with what i was saying about the skintone overhauls. for some reason my dolphin just stopped rendering the textures for this correctly, no idea why, i checked every graphics setting i could find, even did some reading on what every graphics setting featured in dolphin even does. nothing fixed it. so i then dumped the textures. found out everything being rendered as black is actually transparent. even the horns, shorts, shoes, and socks, which i have no idea why this would even be effected.

anyway, so as i've demonstrated i have some experience in texture editing for this game. i know how to get all the textures for the face dumped, i've done it back in 2021, i know the process to get them all quickly. turn on texture dumping, pull out my shovel, bash my shovel against a tree or concrete to get the shocked eyes and closed eyes, swap to my fishing rod and try to use it away from water to get the sad eyes, then get stung by a bee and repeat the prior steps to get the beesting textures corresponding to that. from there it's just a matter of figuring out what texture corresponds to what, then filling the missing colors back in through my usual art program, then dumping all the textures in my load folder.

aaand then he's reassembled.

from here it's just a matter of repeating the process for every tan level. i'm not TTing (much) on this file, trying to get myself to just slow down and take things slow. so i'm just working on getting one tan level's textures done per day.

anyway nook reopened so i expanded my house again. kinda wish i could just shove all my bells at nook and have him upgrade it to max to start with.

july 15th

another day of rain, that makes three days in a row now. i'm getting kinda tired of this song...

nook was also closed for remodelling today, so that in combination with the rain would make the day's entire play session rather boring overall. however, redd visited today. he had three paintings i didn't have yet, and i had bells burning holes in my pocket. bought him out in one trip.

it was real nice, he had three paintings, perfect for my museum.

a funny quirk of this mod having freecam instead of the usual bordered camera-snapping is being able to watch redd's tent despawn in realtime as soon as you buy him out. bro was GONE.

i also finally finalized tabby's portrait.

i'm actually really proud of it, i think it actually captures the look of the original render.

i really wanted to base the portrait of her on her n64 render in specific, since the portraits up until new horizons were actually based on renders of prior games. for example, wild world portaits were based on their gamecube renders. this is really interesting to me because it actually lead to some discrepencies between the designs between the two games. for example, to bring up rowan again, his portrait in wild world actually has the hat he has due to originally being an islander in gc.

last thing to really note is i spent the past few nights just casually beetle hunting. it's been pretty calming, and i've been bringing in all my bells i've been using for everything aside from upgrading my house from that. made some good progress on my museum.

july 14th

not a whole lot of note today. the past few days i've just been doing the usual catching of common bugs and fish that you usually do in earlygame so you can donate them to blathers. today's are noteworthy though due to actually finding two bugs (or well, just one bug) that were later added in e+.

other than that, i mainly just tweaked that portrait of tabby a bit.

...also another house expansion. yeah.

july 13th

today, i ended up feeling like checking out my island for the hell of it.

i introduced myself to my resident islander, who ended up being rowan.

a villager i've always been fond of, though i'm used to him being a jock villager as he is in later games. i knew he was a cranky villager in GC, but that still didn't stop me from being surprised by him having a really deep voice.

even more surprising was his manner of speaking when it comes to dialog. since your islander is a permanent resident for each town, and i've only really bothered to visit the island in a couple playthroughs - due to the methods of visiting being rather ludicrous in normal gameplay, both base ACGC for needing the link cable and GBA, and e+ for needing to pay a hefty amount of your loan to gain access - i can definitely say i've never met a cranky islander before. so, imagine my surprise that the dialog is very... explicitly flirty? like, i'm familiar with smug villagers from later entries, and i can imagine they take their inspiration from these "cranky" islanders, but man it is a heavy contrast to this being the same game with the "mental runt of the litter" line. anyway, i mainly just ended up giving him a bunch of shirts, since he kept begging for them for some reason.

aside from that, the main thing of note is i ended up digging up nook's portrait, something a villager buried during one of their little treasure hunts. this ended up giving me an idea of something i can do. since i'm fairly familiar with the process for making texture edits in dolphin, and villager portraits aren't a part of the series until GC... well.

speaking of texture edits, i also decided i wanted to tweak my stones to have a multicolor brown look, instead of the default blue/grey tone. i'm actually really proud of how it turned out.

i also expanded my house, but since i gave myself the bells, that isn't much of note. i am liking the layout though.

july 12th

after a couple days of messing with it, i finally ended up remembering how to get ACSE to actually cooperate with me when it comes to having villager houses actually stay in place, so i decided to upgrade this save to deluxe and start playing daily for real. though, the random villagers i didn't set to move in wasn't all bad, i ended up gaining a new favorite from this process, leopold.

i dunno why, but as soon as i saw he randomly got spawned in, i found his design so striking that i ended up setting him as one of the villagers i actually really wanted to keep in my town. maybe it's because i also have a fondness for cobb, another green, bespectacled jock villager.

aside from this, not a whole lot to mention, just the typical early game stuff paired with putting all the furniture i spawned in away. the storage system in this mod is probably one of the best QoL features a person could ask for with GC.

(ignore my character looking kinda ghastly, i'm trying not to let it get to me)

and my house looks like this. it's small.

july 7th -> july 12th

for the most part, i spent these days tweaking my town with ACSE. i've been busy with a move irl, so it's just something i kinda just chipped away at. i tried manually editing my default layout acre-by-acre, but curiosity got to me and i just ended up generating a bunch of seeds until i got one with a three-tier layout, and i ended up much happier with it. i struggled a bit with getting everything working, i've messed with ACSE in the past, but i couldn't remember how to get the villagers' houses cooperating. i kept having them spawn in random spots, random villagers moving in and taking the place of set ones, houses spawning in where the signs are just garbled text.
